Who is responsible for this website
HomeBuyingUK.co.uk is owned and operated by Prudent Plus Limited. Our postal address is Booths Hall, Booths Park, Chelford Road, Knutsford WA16 8GS.
Prudent Plus Limited is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZB208127. For data-protection purposes, Prudent Plus Limited is the controller of personal information that it receives directly through this website or through correspondence sent to us.
The insurance quotation service linked from this site is run by Seopa Ltd, trading as Quotezone. Seopa Ltd has its own responsibilities for the personal information entered on its website. Its privacy notice is shown when you follow the quote link.
What the site receives when you visit
You do not have to register, create a profile or enter your name to read our guides. Like most websites, the service that hosts the pages may create technical records when a page is requested. These can include the internet address used by your device, the date and time, browser type, referring page and the page that was opened.
Those records help to keep the website available, investigate faults and deal with suspicious or abusive traffic. We may also use totals that do not identify an individual to see which guides are being read and where the site needs improving.
HomeBuyingUK.co.uk does not contain a home-insurance quotation form. We do not see the answers you enter after leaving this site for Quotezone unless the other service separately tells you that information will be shared.
Emails and other information you choose to send
If you email us, we receive the email address, name and anything else included in your message. Please send only what is needed for the question. Ordinary email is not a suitable way to send bank details, identity documents, medical information or confidential conveyancing papers.
We use correspondence to reply, correct the site, keep a record of a complaint or meet a legal or regulatory duty. The lawful basis will usually be our legitimate interest in dealing with enquiries and running the website. Where the law requires us to keep or disclose information, the basis may instead be a legal obligation.
We do not add people who contact us to a marketing list unless they have been clearly asked and have agreed. At present, the site does not offer a newsletter.
Cookies, links and services run by other organisations
The pages themselves do not use advertising cookies or create a visitor account. Essential technologies may still be used by the hosting and security services that deliver the site. If optional analytics, advertising or similar tracking is introduced later, the notice and any consent choices will be updated before it is used.
A link to Quotezone takes you to a separate website. Quotezone will explain its own cookies and how it handles quotation details. The same applies to links to GOV.UK, MoneyHelper, RICS, the FCA and other outside resources. We cannot set or remove cookies placed by another website.
Some links on HomeBuyingUK.co.uk are affiliate links. Prudent Plus Limited may receive a commission if an insurance product is bought after using one of those links. That does not increase the premium, and it does not give us access to all the personal information used to produce the quotation.
Who information may be shared with, and how long it is kept
We may use service providers for website hosting, security, email and technical support. They are allowed to use personal information only for the service they provide and must protect it appropriately. Information may also be disclosed if the law requires it, to deal with fraud or security, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
We do not sell email addresses or enquiry details. We do not pass an email enquiry to an insurer merely because it concerns home insurance.
Technical logs are kept for the period needed for security and operation by the relevant service. Ordinary correspondence is kept only while it remains useful for the enquiry, our records or a legal duty. Complaints and regulatory correspondence may be retained longer. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or made anonymous where reasonably possible.
Some suppliers may process information outside the UK. Where that happens, the organisation responsible must use a lawful safeguard for the transfer, such as an approved adequacy arrangement or suitable contractual protection.
Your rights and how to contact us
UK data-protection law can give you the right to ask for a copy of your personal information, have inaccurate details corrected, object to certain uses, ask for processing to be limited, or request deletion. In some situations, you may also have a right to data portability or to withdraw consent. These rights depend on the reason the information is held and are not absolute.
To make a request, write to Prudent Plus Limited at the address above or email askprudent@sent.com. We may need enough information to confirm your identity before releasing personal data.
If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. You can also contact the ICO for independent guidance.
This policy will be changed if the way the website handles information changes. The version shown here is the one that applies when you use the site.
